Another Successful Open Meet with 5 Golds!

The weekend saw 12 of the swans compete at the Cambridge Spring Open and with many looking to build on the success of the County Championships, that aim was certainly achieved. They came away with 5 Golds, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. 1 regional qualifying time, 18 county qualifying times* and 33 personal bests!

Amongst the boys, they are starting to take the breaststroke category by storm with Luca Strazzullo winning Gold in the 100m br with a RQT (to sit alongside his already achieved 50m br RQT) and Ewan Thompson taking the Gold in the 200m br with a CQT and a further Bronze medal for Ewan in the 50m br again with a CQT.

The Williams’ sisters found medal success in the IM category with Emily Williams winning Silver in the 400IM and Hannah Williams winning Bronze in the 200IM.

It was the youngest member of the squad, Alexia Gilbert, who hit the golden hat trick with 3 Gold medals in 50m backstroke, 50m fly and 50m free; swimming PB’s and gaining CQT in the freestyle to boot!

Jade-Lee Davis, Ellenor Thompson, Max Lubello, Layla Button, Darcy Button, Alice Jack and Joshua Needham all swam personal bests across their races. CQT’s achieved by Lexi, Emily, Hannah, Darcy, Ellie, Ewan, and Max.

A great start to this years work to gain places at next years County Championships and Regionals. Well done to all of you - the hard work you put into your training is showing up in results like these. Immensely proud of you all.

Thanks to City of Cambridge Swimming Club for hosting the open meet and huge thanks as always to all the volunteers who enable these meets to happen.
